Call to Order
A meeting of the Girl Scouts of Greater Mississippi ("GSGMS") - Tall Pines Service Unit was held on September 8, 2016, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Madison, MS. It began at 7:00 pm CST and was presided over by Linda Harrison, Service Unit Coordinator.

Council Business
1. The Council reminded leaders in attendance that all troops must re-register for the 2016-2017 year. All leaders must be registered to conduct Troop meetings, and all girls must be registered to sell cookies and fall products. This year there will be a penalty for late registration of existing troops – troops will lose $0.01 per box of cookies in the cookie sale if not re-registered by October 31.
2. The Council will host a Regional Round Table meeting on Thursday, September 15, 2016.
3. Fall Product Sales will last from September 12 – October 23. Please contact Natalie Bell with any questions or problems.
Service Unit Business:
1. Updates to Service Unit Events.
a. Dad/Daughter Dance will be hosted by Troop 0580 and Troop 5683 (Julie Tipton’s Troops). The dance will be help on January 13, 2017.
b. Mom and Me Tea will potentially be hosted by Troop 3382 (Angel Stenmark).
c. Fall Thanksgiving Box Project still needs a host/sponsor.
d. Thinking Day Event will be hosted by Troop 5608 (Dena Penner’s Troop). Potential dates for this event are 2/10/2017 or 2/17/2017.
e. Library Display (March 2017) still needs a host/sponsor.
f. Service Unit Weekend (Campout) still needs a host/sponsor.
2. Gus Argrett reminded attendees that a Desserts First Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at the home of Linda Harrison.
3. The Tall Pines Bridging Ceremony will take place on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 6:00 pm at St. Matthews. Please let Ms. Linda know if your troop would like to participate.
4. Camp Wahi Wildlife and Forestry Grant – The Jackson Regional Service Unit is hosting a camping event (“Scouts on Board”) on September 23-24, 2016 at Camp Wahi. Registration will close on 9/12/2016, so please return your registration forms as soon as possible if you are interested in attending.
5. Washington, DC Trip (May 2017). Deposits are due to Sekila Argrett by October 15, 2016. Sekila distributed a draft itinerary for the trip, and stated expected attendance is already over 50 people.
6. The Tall Pines Service Unit will be participating in the Breast Cancer Walk on October 22, 2016. Please contact Julene Stewart for more details.
7. The Tall Pines Service Unit will once again host a water station at the MS Blues Marathon, currently scheduled for January 7, 2017.

Official Reports
Service Unit meetings will be held on the first Thursday of every month, unless otherwise specified. Scheduled meetings for the 2016-2017 season are as follows: September 8, October 6, November 3, December 1, January 5 (also includes Cookie Training), February 2, March 2, April 6, and May 4. Also note that Cookie Delivery will be February 20, 2017.
New Business:
1. The membership present approved Linda Harrison to continue as the service unit manager and treasurer. Additionally, Angel Stenmark was asked to continue serving as Service Unit Secretary.
2. Service Unit Events. Please consider volunteering to host one or more of our Service Unit Events. The goal is to have the service unit calendar set by the end of September. Events include the following:
a. Dad/Daughter Dance
b. Mom and Me Tea
c. Fall Thanksgiving Box Project
d. Thinking Day Event
e. Library Display – March, 2017
f. Service Unit Weekend (Campout)
3. Camp Wahi Wildlife and Forestry Grant – The Jackson Regional Service Unit is hosting a camping event (“Scouts on Board”) on September 23-24, 2016 at Camp Wahi. Please return your registration forms as soon as possible if you are interested in attending. Troop House is now filled to capacity.
4. Donation to St. Matthews. The Service Unit would like to make a donation to St. Matthews United Methodist Church to show our appreciation. A motion was made to propose a $500 donation, and the motion was passed by a majority of attendees.
5. The Tall Pines Bridging Ceremony will take place on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 6:00 pm at St. Matthews. Please let Ms. Linda know if your troop would like to participate.
6. Motion was made to make a $100 donation in honor of Gloria Tancil Holmes, Sekila Argrett’s mother. Mrs. Holmes was a Lifetime Girl Scout member. The motion was passed by a majority of attendees.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 pm CST, and was immediately followed by Council training on Fall Product Sales.

1. Nisey Ward was introduced as the new Membership Specialist for Tall Pines. Her email address is 30TUnward@gsgms.orgU30T.
2. The Girl Scout Store will be open on Saturday, November 12, from 10 am – 12 pm.
3. A New Troop Event will be held on November 19, 2016 at Camp Wahi.
4. Fall Product Delivery will begin on November 15. Please contact Natalie Bell to schedule a time for pickup.

2. Gus Argrett reminded attendees that a Desserts First Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for next week at the home of Linda Harrison.
3. Tall Pines Christmas Project. In prior years, Tall Pines has adopted the Warren Family to provide Christmas presents. All of the Warren children are now grown and working, so the suggestion was made by Virginia Gautier that we instead sponsor Mississippi Children’s Home. The motion was passed, and items will be collected at the December meeting.
4. Washington, DC Trip (May 2017). Deposits were due to Sekila Argrett by October 15, 2016, and 75 people are currently registered to participate. Sekila stated that there is still room for a few more attendees, so please contact her ASAP if you are interested.
5. The Tall Pines Service Unit will once again host a water station at the MS Blues Marathon, currently scheduled for January 7, 2017.
6. A Babysitting Clinic will be hosted by Julene Stewart’s troop in January 2017. She will distribute a flyer at the December Service Unit Meeting.
7. Tall Pines is hosting a Dozing with Dolphins Weekend March 31 – April 1, 2017. The event is now full.
8. Reminder – Cookie Training will take place during the December Service Unit meeting.
